Police Fatally Shoot Man with Bow and Arrow in NSW

A man was fatally shot by police after he brandished a bow and arrow at them. The incident occurred during a welfare check at a residence on Quia Road in Gunnedah, approximately 450km northwest of Sydney. Police officers engaged with the man outside the house, but he reappeared holding the weapon and aimed it at the officers.

In response, the police had to seek refuge in their vehicle as the man continued to pose a threat. Subsequently, law enforcement discharged a firearm, resulting in the man’s death despite efforts to save him. The New South Wales Police confirmed the tragic outcome in a press release, initiating a critical incident investigation into the shooting that took place in the state’s western region.

The investigation, being led by a critical incident team from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, will scrutinize the circumstances surrounding the fatality. Additionally, the Professional Standards Command will review the investigation, overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).
