Donald Trump has issued a concerning warning about an upcoming “day of retribution” in Minnesota. Despite widespread disapproval of ICE’s tactics in the state, the US President has reaffirmed his decision to deploy more agents to target Somali Americans, the majority of whom are US citizens.
Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, raised questions about the presence of convicted criminals and dangerous individuals in Minnesota communities. He defended ICE’s actions, emphasizing the agency’s goal of removing such individuals from neighborhoods and returning them to their country of origin.
Contrary to Trump’s claims, the Somali American community in Minnesota consists mainly of US citizens through naturalization or birth. The number of non-citizens within this community is relatively small, with the majority having legal status through visas or green cards.
Despite reports of around 3,000 ICE agents being sent to Minnesota by the Trump administration, the actual number of potentially deportable individuals is significantly lower. Trump boasted about crime reduction in other places due to ICE interventions and hinted at a forthcoming “day of reckoning and retribution” for Minnesota.
It is important to note that the information shared by Trump regarding the Somali American community and ICE’s operations in Minnesota does not align with the facts.
