Wetherspoon reveals plans for a new university pub, Joe’s at the University of Birmingham, in a partnership with the Guild of Students. Named after the university’s clock tower, Joe’s will be managed by the students’ guild and will open in Easter 2026 after a renovation. It will offer the full Wetherspoon menu, including specials like the Thursday Curry Club.
This initiative follows the successful launch of Wetherspoon’s first university pub at Hull University in 2022. John Hutson, the company’s chief executive, expressed excitement about the partnership with the Guild of Students and the prospects for Joe’s Bar.
Antonia Listrat, President of the University of Birmingham Guild of Students, highlighted the benefits for students, including affordable food and drinks and increased job opportunities. The surplus generated will be reinvested in supporting student activities, enhancing the overall student experience.
Wetherspoon plans to open six more pubs by mid-January. In other news, the chain recently introduced its Christmas menu featuring a turkey dinner option. Priced at £13.99 with a soft drink or £15.52 with an alcoholic beverage, the meal includes turkey breast, stuffing, vegetables, pigs-in-blankets, and more. This year’s prices are slightly higher than last year’s due to various factors.
The Christmas menu will be available until December 31. Despite facing industry-wide challenges, Tim Martin, Wetherspoon’s founder, aims to minimize price increases while maintaining the quality and affordability of their offerings.
