The primary goal of this administration is to address the affordability crisis that is impacting our nation. In an effort to assist struggling families, last year we broadened the eligibility criteria for the Warm Home Discount, offering a £150 rebate on energy bills to approximately 6 million families receiving means-tested benefits, representing one in five households nationwide.
We are pleased to announce that qualifying families will continue to receive this discount every winter throughout the decade. Additionally, for numerous families in Scotland, we are streamlining the process so they can automatically receive this support starting next winter.
In addition to these measures, we recently announced a plan to reduce household expenses by an average of £150 from April. Furthermore, our Warm Homes Plan, the largest public investment in home upgrades in British history, will help lower bills for millions of households through technologies like solar panels and aims to lift up to a million families out of fuel poverty.
Recognizing the challenges faced by families due to Britain’s loss of control over energy supply to fossil fuel markets dominated by petrostates and dictators, we are increasing investments in domestic clean energy sources such as renewables and nuclear power.
Every decision we make is centered on addressing the affordability crisis, providing immediate relief while working towards sustainable long-term solutions to reduce household expenses.
