The body of a second swimmer who went missing in Budleigh Salterton on Christmas Day has been discovered. The man, believed to be 63-year-old Matthew Upham, was found in the sea off Exmouth, Devon, after an extensive search operation on January 25. He was one of two swimmers who disappeared in turbulent waters at Budleigh Salterton on Christmas morning. A police spokesperson stated that emergency services responded to a report of a possible body near the shore at Exmouth Beach and recovered the body of a man. Although formal identification is pending, the family of a 64-year-old man from Budleigh Salterton has been notified.
Earlier in the week, the body of the first missing swimmer was reportedly found on the shore at Sandy Bay in Exmouth. Police and coastguard teams were alerted to the area on January 20. While the identity of the 47-year-old man has not been publicly disclosed, officers believe he is the individual who failed to return to shore at Budleigh Salterton. His next of kin has been contacted.
