Aldi has recently implemented price reductions on a wide range of products this January. These price cuts span across fresh and frozen foods, pantry staples, household necessities, and personal care items.
Notable discounts include red lentils now priced at 99p, down from £1.39, porridge sachets reduced to 79p from 99p, and organic steel cut oats now available for £1.99, reduced from £2.19. Additionally, beef and pork Bolognese mince is now £4.49, down from £4.79, pork and gammon joints are priced at £3.49, reduced from £3.99, and Specially Selected British cheese is now £2.29, down from £2.59.
Other savings include sweetcorn now at 55p, previously 59p, and a reduction on six large free-range eggs to £1.75 from £1.79. Shoppers can also enjoy a 50p discount on selected items such as no beef flank steak now priced at £6.99, down from £7.49, and vegetable pieces and meatballs for £1.49, reduced from £1.99.
The price cuts in January signify an investment of over £22 million towards lowering prices. Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, emphasized the supermarket’s commitment to offering customers the best value without compromising quality by continuously reviewing and adjusting prices.
Aldi’s expansion plans include the opening of 40 new stores in the UK this year, with an investment of £370 million. This initiative is part of a larger two-year investment program totaling £1.6 billion, aiming to achieve a goal of 1,500 UK stores in the long run.
In consumer ratings, Aldi was recognized as the cheapest supermarket in 2025 by Which? magazine, holding the top position for ten out of 12 months. Lidl claimed the title twice, in July and October. On average, the price difference between Aldi and Lidl over the year was only 77p.
In December, Aldi remained the most economical choice for a list of 68 items, with an average cost of £123.60. Lidl followed closely at £123.70 for both members and non-members. Comparatively, Asda’s average cost for the same items was £134.89, while Tesco Clubcard members paid £135.84 or £139.12 without a Clubcard.
