“Scandinavian Weather System to Bring Snow to UK”

A weather system lingering over Scandinavia is expected to bring snow to parts of the UK soon, according to forecasters. Netweather forecaster Ian Simpson highlights a Scandinavian blocking system, a slow-moving high-pressure area that could affect the UK’s weather towards the end of the month, potentially ushering in a period of colder and drier conditions. Simpson suggests a 30 to 40 percent chance of easterly snowfall, mainly in eastern areas, starting from January 26.

BBC Weather also anticipates a shift in weather patterns from January 19 to 25, with high pressure over Scandinavia and the Urals potentially redirecting Atlantic weather systems away from the UK. This change could result in colder easterly flows by the week’s end, bringing wintry showers from the North Sea. However, the possibility of milder Atlantic-driven weather prevailing, especially in western regions, is also noted.

The Met Office echoes the likelihood of snowfall before the month ends. Their forecast for January 20 to 29 indicates a clash between Atlantic weather systems approaching from the west and high pressure systems bringing colder conditions from the east. Towards the end of the period, the Met Office suggests a higher chance of colder weather setting in, increasing the potential for snow across the country.
