“Over 1 Million Current Account Switches in 2025”

The latest data reveals that over a million current account switches were made for the third consecutive year. Nationwide stood out with 41,450 customers transitioning to their services, attracted by incentives like a £175 switching offer and annual £100 bonus payments through a profit-sharing scheme. Monzo and NatWest also saw significant customer gains, with 9,934 and 8,731 new customers, respectively, during the July to September period. The final quarter of 2025 was particularly active, with a total of 350,114 current account switches recorded by the Current Account Switch Service (CASS).

Despite the overall switch volume reaching 1,054,521 in 2025, it was lower compared to the figures from 2023 and 2024 when higher interest rates drove up savings rates. On the flip side, Santander experienced a loss of nearly 20,000 current accounts, while Halifax and JP Morgan’s Chase witnessed 17,341 and 7,623 customers switching away, respectively.

According to John Dentry, the product manager at Pay.UK, which operates CASS, the high level of switching activity signifies a robust and competitive banking market where consumers feel empowered to seek better account options that suit their needs. Dentry emphasized the importance of consumers feeling confident in moving their money to accounts that better match their requirements, ensuring a smooth and secure switching process.

In other news, Waymo, a US firm, plans to introduce driverless cabs on UK roads starting this autumn. The autonomous taxi service aims to launch in London by the end of the year, with testing already underway. Waymo’s technology is expected to enhance road safety and reduce accidents, although fares are anticipated to be higher compared to traditional taxi services.

Furthermore, Solfest, a renowned UK music festival held in Cumbria, has declared bankruptcy due to significant challenges.
