A young individual is in critical condition after a shark attacked them at a renowned beach in Sydney, Australia. The incident occurred when the approximately 13-year-old boy was leaping off rocks at the shoreline. Emergency services responded to the scene at Shark Beach in Sydney Harbour around 4:20 pm on Sunday.
According to New South Wales Police, the boy was bitten by the shark near Shark Beach and swiftly rescued from the water by the Marine Area Command and Eastern Suburbs Police. The authorities applied medical tourniquets and administered initial aid on a police vessel before transferring the victim to Rose Bay wharf for further treatment by NSW Ambulance Paramedics.
Multiple medical resources, including an intensive care paramedic, aeromedical teams, and a helicopter, were present at the scene. The teenage patient sustained critical leg injuries and was rushed to Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick in a critical state.
Shark Beach, situated in the upscale suburb of Vaucluse in Sydney, features both protected swimming areas and open waters. Shark incidents are extremely uncommon in the vicinity of Sydney’s ocean. As a precaution, the beach has been closed, and swimmers in Sydney are advised to steer clear of the water.
