Tens of thousands of music enthusiasts gathered at Great Park in Irvine, California, during the weekend to enjoy live performances by their favorite artists. This historic event aimed to raise funds for women’s health, reproductive rights, and the fight against gender-based violence.
The Daisy Chain Fields charity festival, organized by singer Olivia Rodrigo, took inspiration from the iconic Lilith Fair of the 1990s, featuring an all-female lineup. The festival showcased a mix of emerging and established stars, including Chappell Roan, Doechii, Bikini Kill, and Garbage.
Before the festival kicked off on Saturday, Rodrigo revealed that they had raised $10 million for the event’s ten nonprofit partners. This amount was later matched by Melinda French Gates, doubling the total contribution to $20 million. The funds supported organizations like Planned Parenthood, the National Institute for Reproductive Health, and the Black Mamas Matter Alliance.
Rodrigo’s vision for the festival, announced in June, emphasized supporting charities dedicated to empowering women and girls. The event featured special collaborations, such as Rodrigo performing “Landslide” with Stevie Nicks and a surprise appearance by Alanis Morissette singing “Ironic” with Rodrigo.
The festival celebrated the legacy of women in music, with Lilith Fair founder Sarah McLachlan joining Rodrigo on stage. Against the backdrop of ongoing challenges to reproductive rights in the U.S., the event highlighted the importance of supporting women’s causes and activism.
Attendees enjoyed not only musical performances but also interactive art installations and exhibitions. The festival atmosphere was described as “wholesome,” with attendees engaging in activities that promoted unity and empowerment.
Despite the sweltering heat, festival-goers, like digital creator Chase Martinez, praised the event as the “best festival ever.” Martinez highlighted the positive community spirit and the opportunity to support important causes while enjoying a memorable lineup of artists.
The success of Daisy Chain Fields underscores the resilience and unity of the movement for women’s rights and gender equality. The festival’s impact resonated with its nonprofit partners, who expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and solidarity from attendees and artists alike.
