“Tabby Stoecker and Matt Weston Strike Gold at Winter Olympics”

Tabby Stoecker was deeply moved after winning a gold medal at her debut Winter Olympics in the skeleton mixed team event with men’s individual champion Matt Weston. This victory surpassed their previous silver medals at the last two World Championships, setting a track record of 1:59.36. Weston’s comeback from a 0.30-second deficit during Stoecker’s run secured their win by 0.17 seconds.

Weston’s exceptional performance over the weekend made him a double Olympic champion, a feat only achieved previously by Lizzy Yarnold. Team GB enjoyed a successful Sunday with Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale clinching Britain’s first snow gold in the snowboard cross mixed team final. This marked Team GB’s first instance of winning multiple gold medals at a Winter Olympics, let alone achieving two on the same day.

Stoecker celebrated her first major world-level victory, having joined British Skeleton through the Discover Your Gold talent identification program. During the medal ceremony, Stoecker expressed her overwhelming joy, emphasizing the team effort and special bond among the athletes. Weston highlighted his confidence from the individual event, attributing their success to a methodical approach.

The duo’s aim is to inspire others through their achievement, encouraging seizing opportunities and inspiring the next generation of athletes. The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games will run from February 6-22, with fans able to watch over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. Those interested can access continuous Olympic coverage through the £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription, providing access to TNT Sports 2 during the games.
