Iran’s Supreme Leader Blames Trump for Anti-Government Protests

Iran’s supreme leader has criticized Donald Trump, holding him accountable for the harm, destruction, and defamation he directed towards the Iranian people during recent anti-government demonstrations.

The US president had previously threatened Iran with action if it harmed protesters but later adopted a more conciliatory stance, citing the lack of executions. However, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei of Iran rebuked Trump in his first post on a Persian-language platform since mid-January, accusing protesters of aligning with foreign terrorists, including Trump.

Khamenei asserted on social media that the protests were incited by “American sedition” with the goal of subduing Iran. He emphasized the need to thwart both domestic and international supporters of the American seditionists, particularly those associated with Israel and the US, whom he blamed for significant destruction and casualties.

Despite Trump’s warnings to Iran, expressing readiness for action, his administration refrained from military strikes following advice from various sources. Concerns over the potential consequences of destabilizing the region and the global economy led to a cautious approach. Trump later acknowledged Iran’s decision to halt executions, commending the move.

Tehran has seen a return to normalcy with no recent signs of protests, although an internet blackout persists. The death toll, reported at 3,090 by the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, marks a significant loss of life, reminiscent of past unrest in Iran.

The situation remains dynamic, with diplomatic tensions and internal discord shaping the future of Iran and its relations with the US.
