A 70-year-old woman tragically passed away following her ride on a rollercoaster at a theme park. The woman was discovered unresponsive after the high-speed journey came to a halt on the Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster at Universal Orlando, Florida, according to recently disclosed records.
She was swiftly taken to the hospital on November 25 but unfortunately could not be revived. The cause of her death was not disclosed in the report, though eight other incidents of injuries or medical episodes were reported at the park between October and December. These incidents included complaints of chest pains, sickness, and back pains.
The report did not provide specific details of the circumstances surrounding the incident, stating that it was a compilation of data collected from the park and only reflected the information available at the time of the event due to privacy concerns.
The Revenge of the Mummy ride, known for its top speed of 45 mph and features like sudden stops, backward motion, and a 39-foot drop, takes place mostly in a dimly lit or dark environment, intensifying the feeling of speed and unpredictability.
Since its opening in 2004, the ride has been associated with numerous injuries, with 21 incidents reported. A Universal spokesperson refrained from commenting on pending claims, leaving it unclear whether any claims have been lodged against the park.
While the Orlando Police Department stated that no death investigation had been initiated, the Orlando Fire Department did not possess information about the incident.
In a separate incident last year, a teenager was injured on a theme park ride when he was thrown from his seat during a 360-degree swing at its peak. Witnesses observed the 13-year-old falling and sustaining injuries, including a broken leg and two fingers. The ride was operating as expected until the boy fell from his seat while holding onto the ride.
As the ride accelerated and made another turn, the teenager swung along with it before disappearing from view, prompting the operator to halt the attraction. The teenager fell from a height of approximately one-and-a-half to two meters and was subsequently taken to the hospital, where it was confirmed that he had broken three bones at the Jatim Park ride in Indonesia.
