Scottie Scheffler Joins $100m Club with American Express Win

Scottie Scheffler has now entered the exclusive $100m club, alongside golf legends Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, following a commanding victory at The American Express tournament. As the current world No.1, Scheffler has signaled early on that he poses a significant challenge to the reigning Masters champion in the upcoming Major tournaments.

Last year, Scheffler faced a setback when he injured his hand during the holiday season. However, he has kicked off the new year in impressive form, clinching a decisive four-shot victory in California with a final round score of six-under 66, finishing at 27-under par.

This latest win marks Scheffler’s 20th victory on the PGA Tour, all achieved within the last four years, securing him a lifetime membership. Notably, nine of these wins have been by a margin of four shots or more. With his earnings from this victory totaling $1.656m, Scheffler’s on-course earnings have now surpassed $100m, aligning him with Woods and McIlroy as the only players to achieve this milestone on the PGA Tour.

At just 29 years old, Scheffler has also joined the elite company of Woods and Jack Nicklaus as one of the few players to claim 20 PGA Tour titles and four Majors before turning 30. Reflecting on his achievements, Scheffler humbly stated, “It’s been a great start to my career. It’s been special. I try not to think about that stuff too much. I was just trying to do the things I needed to do to be prepared.”

Since securing his first victory at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open, Scheffler has outpaced McIlroy with a total of 11 more wins, including his latest triumph. Additionally, since his T-20 finish at The Players last March, Scheffler has consistently performed well, never finishing lower than T-8 in subsequent events.

Noteworthy praise came from joint runner-up Jason Day, who acknowledged Scheffler’s exceptional performance, likening his consistency to that of golf legend Tiger Woods. Looking ahead, Scheffler remains focused on further improvement, confident that he can elevate his game even more after a slow start to the previous season.

A standout moment from the tournament was provided by teenager Blades Brown, who found himself in the final group alongside Scheffler, ultimately finishing tied for 18th. Brown expressed awe at witnessing Scheffler’s victory firsthand, emphasizing the surreal experience of competing alongside the golf champion.

As Scheffler continues to raise the bar in the golfing world, his remarkable achievements and unwavering determination set a formidable standard for his competitors.
