A schoolgirl was left deeply disturbed and “screaming” after unexpectedly coming across the body of a man while participating in a physical education class. The discovery took place this morning at Smestow Academy in Wolverhampton when the 11-year-old girl ventured out onto the school’s playing fields.
The girl’s father shared, “My daughter called her mother in a panicked state, screaming about discovering a deceased person near the goal posts on the field. She’s just 11 years old. They had gone out for PE, and the foggy weather added to the unsettling experience.”
Expressing concern for his daughter’s well-being, he added, “This incident has greatly unsettled her, prompting us to pick her up from school early. It’s distressing for her to have witnessed such a sight.”
A parent mentioned on social media platform Facebook that their relative’s class was the one to find the body, acknowledging the school’s provision of counseling services and offering condolences.
The young girl and her classmates were the first group scheduled for PE that week, with no other students having accessed the field before the discovery of the body.
Following police advice, the school closed temporarily but plans to resume normal operations the next day. Students impacted by the incident are encouraged to seek support from their year head for specialized assistance.
Authorities are presently working to ascertain the man’s identity and the circumstances surrounding his demise. The school clarified that closure was at the police’s directive due to an incident unrelated to the academy.
A spokesperson from West Midlands Police confirmed their presence at Smestow Academy following the discovery of the body. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene, prompting ongoing investigations to determine the cause of death and identify the individual.
Anyone with pertinent information is urged to contact the authorities through the provided channels. The West Midlands Ambulance Service also responded to the medical emergency call at Windmill Crescent, Castlecroft, where they sadly confirmed the man’s passing.
