Emergency services were called to a security incident at a golf club owned by Donald Trump shortly after his son departed earlier today. The Defence Forces’ Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, known as the bomb squad, were dispatched to the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg, County Clare, Ireland, in response to a report of an envelope containing a suspicious substance. The incident occurred after Eric Trump, aged 42, left the premises to fly to Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum (WEF). Both President Donald Trump and Eric Trump are presently in Davos, Switzerland, participating in the WEF under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue” from January 19 to January 23.
Notably, the luxury hotel had been previously targeted by a bomb threat, triggering a police investigation. Despite the security alert, the hotel remained open during the winter season. Following the report of the suspicious envelope, authorities, including a specialized sniffer dog unit from Dublin, conducted a thorough search of the site but found nothing alarming. A spokeswoman for the Defence Forces declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing nature of the operation.
Local law enforcement confirmed an ongoing incident in west Clare without directly naming Doonbeg, although sources verified that the affected location was indeed Mr. Trump’s hotel complex. A Garda spokesman stated that they were addressing an active situation at a premises in West Clare and refrained from elaborating at that time. Eric Trump had stayed at the hotel the previous night before heading to Davos for the WEF. Additionally, Eric Trump had earlier shared an aerial view of the Doonbeg site, revealing it as the venue for the upcoming Irish Golf Open scheduled for September 9 to 13 this year.
The security scare was prompted by the delivery of the envelope with a suspected powder substance to the site, as reported by the Irish Mirror. Responding to the situation, emergency services swiftly arrived at the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg, County Clare, Ireland, which is under the ownership of Donald Trump.
