“Major M60 Motorway Closure Due to Sewage Flooding”

A significant motorway closure is in effect due to local sewage issues leading to flooding.

The M60 in Greater Manchester is shut anti-clockwise from junction 17 to junction 14 on Thursday, January 15. Ongoing overnight roadworks have been delayed due to the flooding, which was not related to the planned construction completion time of 5 am.

Motorists should anticipate delays in the region with a designated diversion route in place. A burst water pipe has resulted in the roadway being inundated with sewage water, as confirmed by National Highways.

Emergency crews and specialized equipment are on-site to address the situation, and traffic disruptions are expected until the carriageway is secure.

National Highways have warned of extensive delays on the busy motorway, with current traffic delays exceeding 50 minutes compared to normal conditions.

Assistance for the sewage spill is en route, as National Highways have requested specialist support to manage the situation promptly.

The closure remains in effect with a diversion route established, as National Highways have arranged for signed diversions on the M60 due to ongoing roadworks.

The closure of the M60 is a result of sewage system issues. Overrunning works on the M60 anti-clockwise in Greater Manchester, from J17 to J14, are due to the flooding impact between J16 and J15, surpassing the scheduled completion time of 5 am.

National Highways explained, “The flooding is caused by a local sewage system malfunction and is not related to the planned construction activities.”
