In March, individuals who made purchases on Amazon are being cautioned about a new scam circulating that falsely claims a “product recall” has been initiated. The concerning text message, targeting UK phone users, opens with an alert stating, “Amazon Product Recall Notice.”
The message then proceeds to offer a full refund to recipients and prompts them to click a link and log in to their Amazon account. It further emphasizes the need to immediately stop using the product.
The message, as reviewed by Mirror Online, states, “Dear Customer, we are informing you of a product recall related to an item from your March 2026 order due to a design flaw that could pose a safety risk.
“We regret any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for promptly addressing this critical safety issue. We appreciate your continued trust in Amazon.”
While the message may seem alarming, there is no actual product recall. It is a phishing scam aimed at deceiving concerned customers into disclosing their login credentials, which could have detrimental consequences.
Individuals who click on the provided link are directed to a fraudulent Amazon sign-in page that appears legitimate. By capturing login details, scammers can misuse them to make unauthorized purchases, block access to accounts, or obtain personal data.
Although this scam is recent and has just started appearing on phones, it is not the first time Amazon customers have been targeted. In February, the consumer group Which? issued a similar alert after cybercriminals circulated messages alleging a product recall “for safety reasons,” with links to a fake Amazon page.
In a statement to Which?, Amazon advised, “There are various scams that prompt individuals to make payments via email, phone, or text for goods or services.
“Exercise caution whenever someone pressures you to act immediately—scammers often create a sense of urgency to manipulate you, using convincing tactics to lure consumers in.
“We urge consumers to report suspected scams to safeguard their accounts and alert law enforcement about malicious actors.”
Amazon also recommends that customers remain vigilant regarding:
• Unfamiliar phone numbers or messages from numbers with unusual or foreign country codes
• Notifications about orders or deliveries that were not anticipated
• Links containing misspellings, unusual formatting, or URLs utilizing IP addresses instead of standard web addresses
