Tributes are being paid to a woman who was fatally stabbed in a serene village, sparking a murder inquiry.
Gilly Livie, aged 68, was discovered with a severe neck stab at her residence in Hampshire on January 9. Emergency services swiftly responded to the incident in Cheriton around 10:30 am, but despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.
A 39-year-old male, known to Gilly, was also found with critical injuries, including wounds to his neck and leg. He was taken to the hospital and is currently in a stable condition.
Describing Gilly, a neighbor shared with the Telegraph that, “She was a kind-hearted lady, an enthusiastic runner with a fondness for dogs and chickens. She was actively involved in the local community, leading a private life. She was known for her kindness and cheerful demeanor.”
Another individual speaking to the Daily Mail stated, “She was very amicable. While I only knew her slightly, the news is devastating. She had a gentle and kind nature. The entire village is in shock. Our community is close-knit, and there is always someone ready to lend an ear. We are deeply affected.”
Hampshire Police released a statement saying, “An investigation for murder has been initiated following the tragic death of a woman in Cheriton. Responding to a welfare concern at a property off the B3046 at 10:31am on Friday, January 9, officers discovered Gilly Livie, 68, with severe injuries.”
“Despite immediate medical attention by officers and paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been informed and is receiving support from specialized personnel. A post-mortem examination revealed that Gilly’s cause of death was a neck stab wound.”
The statement continued, “A 39-year-old male, acquainted with the victim, was also present at the location with injuries to his neck and leg initially deemed life-threatening. He is currently in a stable condition at the hospital. Investigators are diligently working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Chief Inspector Korine Bishop, the district commander, expressed, “This event has undoubtedly shocked the community. We want to assure the public that a significant number of officers are actively investigating this case.”
Chief Inspector Bishop added, “While inquiries are ongoing, we do not believe there is an imminent danger to the community. There is currently no search for additional suspects, but the investigation remains
