The Vancouver Rise have received reinforcements with the recent signings of two defenders. The Northern Super League club added Chantelle Swaby, who previously played for Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, who comes from NSL side AFC Toronto. Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller praised the attributes both players bring to the team as they aim to position themselves for a playoff spot.
Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various top leagues, including the National Women’s Soccer League, the Scottish Women’s Premier League, and France’s premier division. Her calm demeanor and vocal leadership in crucial game moments are expected to benefit the Rise.
Hansen, aged 26, is thrilled to return home to Burnaby, B.C., and play in front of a local crowd. The signing of these defenders follows the departure of Mariah Lee, who retired last month to pursue a legal education in New York.
Additionally, Vancouver bid farewell to goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan, who was loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season. The Rise, currently at 5-9-1, are striving for a playoff spot, trailing Halifax by five points as they head into a crucial phase of the season. Forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the team’s determination to showcase their competitive spirit and secure a postseason opportunity.
