Millions of Gmail users have received an urgent alert regarding potential AI scanning of their emails. The warning, shared by TV personality Lori Greiner on Instagram, advises users to stay vigilant. The concern stems from Google’s new AI features, which include smart searches and contextual replies based on email content. Despite Google’s assurance that messages are not read for personal use, Greiner emphasized the importance of addressing this issue.
To disable AI scanning in Gmail, users can follow simple steps: access Settings, select “see all settings,” locate “Smart features,” and turn off smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet. Additionally, unchecking boxes for Workspace and other products can further limit data usage for AI. Google maintains that personal data is secure and inaccessible to its team or third parties.
While Google clarifies that AI models like Gemini do not train on personal emails and only process specific requests securely within the inbox, users who prefer to opt out of AI scanning can easily do so by adjusting the settings in Gmail.
