Tragic Death on M6 Near Wigan Under Investigation

Police are currently conducting an investigation following the tragic death of a woman in an incident on the M6 near Wigan. Earlier today, the motorway was closed for several hours after authorities responded to a welfare concern at the Downall Green Road bridge over the southbound section. Despite the prompt arrival of emergency services, the woman was declared deceased at the scene.

Formal identification of the victim is pending, according to a statement from Greater Manchester Police, who have indicated no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. The M6 was reopened around 4 pm following the extended closure.
