US tennis player Amanda Anisimova firmly rejected a journalist’s attempt to divert a post-match press conference towards President Donald Trump at the Australian Open. Anisimova, 24, was discussing her impressive victory over Czech player Katerina Siniakova at Melbourne Park.
During the press conference, the reporter veered the conversation towards American players representing the country. Anisimova, a native American, expressed her pride in representing her nation and acknowledged the success of fellow athletes on both the men’s and women’s sides.
Despite the journalist’s persistent efforts to bring politics into the discussion, Anisimova maintained her focus on tennis and declined to engage, stating that she did not find the line of questioning relevant.
