The Swiss nightclub owner, Jacques Moretti, will be held in custody for at least the next three months following a court decision in Sion. Moretti, along with his wife Jessica Moretti, faces charges related to the tragic New Year’s inferno at Le Constellation in Crans Montana, where 40 people lost their lives and 116 others sustained severe burns.
Investigations revealed that 34 victims perished on a staircase that had been narrowed by Moretti, leading to fatal congestion during the fire outbreak. The blaze is believed to have started from sparklers igniting ceiling foam, causing a rapid and devastating fire that trapped many inside the club.
Prosecutors argue that Moretti, described as an ex-pimp and repeat offender, poses a flight risk, prompting the decision to keep him in pre-trial detention. Despite admitting to altering the staircase’s width, Moretti denies any wrongdoing alongside his wife, who has been charged in connection with the disaster.
The investigation into the nightclub tragedy is ongoing, with authorities focusing on the safety violations and lack of fire prevention measures at the venue. Moretti’s criminal history and the nightclub’s inadequate safety measures have come under scrutiny as the legal proceedings continue.
