A massive fire has erupted in a factory in Wolverhampton, causing thick smoke to spread throughout the city. The blaze has led to sirens blaring from various directions, prompting concerns of a significant toxic event.

Social media has been flooded with images showing the smoke billowing into the sky from the fire at Wolverhampton. Residents have reported hearing explosions as emergency services rushed to the scene, with one eyewitness expressing difficulty breathing due to the heavy smoke.

Authorities have advised the public to steer clear of St Luke’s Church and have implemented closures on Upper Villiers Street in both directions between Marston Road and Sunbeam Street. The West Midlands Fire Service has described the fire as substantial, generating a large smoke plume that could impact visibility and air quality.

Around 80 firefighters are currently tackling the extensive blaze at the factory, which measures 100m by 50m. The fire service has deployed multiple resources, including 21 fire engines, two 4×4 brigade response vehicles, and three hydraulic aerial platforms to combat the fire and focus on hotspots.

Efforts to extinguish the fire are ongoing, with the expectation of continued disruption in the vicinity throughout the day, evening, and overnight. Residents are urged to close doors and windows as a precautionary measure. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries or casualties from the incident.

The situation remains under close watch, with authorities advising residents to avoid the affected area and cooperate with emergency services’ instructions. The fire service continues to work tirelessly to bring the situation under control, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
