“Love is Blind” TV Show Making Canadian Debut

Is Canada prepared to explore the notion of love without visual cues? If you’re single and intrigued, the pods will soon be open on this side of the border. Netflix revealed on Tuesday that its popular reality dating series “Love is Blind,” which has been a hit in the U.S., is making its way to Canada.

For those who missed it when it premiered in February 2020, here’s how it operates: A group of single individuals enter pods where they communicate, flirt, get acquainted, date, and potentially fall in love, all without seeing each other. Yes, couples sitting on opposite sides of a barrier get engaged without laying eyes on one another.

After getting engaged, they meet face to face, embark on a luxurious trip with other matches to test their chemistry, move in together, meet each other’s families, and on their expedited wedding day, they make the ultimate decision – say “I do” or walk away.

Interested in finding love this way? Casting is currently open for Canadians seeking love. Netflix announced the spinoff on Instagram, sparking immediate interest from hopeful participants.

The news arrives as several other reality shows are receiving the Canadian treatment. “Big Brother Canada” is returning this summer, and “Canada Shore,” the Canadian version of Jersey Shore, recently completed filming its second season in Kelowna, B.C.

Pop culture critic Katherine Singh notes that Canada is currently in the media spotlight, citing successful shows like “Heated Rivalry” and noteworthy pop culture moments such as former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s connection with Katy Perry. This cultural momentum likely influenced the decision to introduce “Love is Blind” to Canada.

Canadian TV producer Sean De Vries, known for his work on shows like “The Bachelor Canada,” believes the show’s passionate following makes it a natural fit for a Canadian adaptation. Authenticity, he says, is key to a successful dating show.

Insight Productions, the company behind “Big Brother Canada” and “Canada Shore,” is producing the Canadian version of “Love is Blind.” Casting requirements include being at least 19 years old at the time of application and being a Canadian citizen or permanent resident as of January 2027.

Since its inception, the U.S. version of “Love is Blind” has seen 10 seasons and spawned spinoffs in various countries. The hosting duo for the U.S. version, Vanessa and Nick Lachey, have not been confirmed for the Canadian edition.
