“Europe Hit by Airport Closures Amid Severe Winter Weather”

A new airport closure occurred in Europe due to severe weather conditions. Budapest Airport cited increased safety risks from black ice and extreme icing as reasons for its temporary shutdown. The airport has since reopened with both runways operational. Similarly, Vienna Airport also faced temporary closure because of thick ice layers causing flight disruptions. Bratislava Airport in Slovakia experienced a brief closure due to adverse weather, resulting in ongoing delays. Prague’s Václav Havel Airport operated in a limited capacity due to freezing rain, causing flight delays and cancellations. Despite resuming normal operations later, flight delays are expected to persist. The weather system affecting central and eastern Europe brought snow and freezing rain, leading to widespread icy conditions and travel disruptions. This weather event follows Storm Goretit, which caused chaos in the UK and led to flight cancellations at various airports. Additionally, extreme cold in northern Finland resulted in flight cancellations and stranded tourists due to challenging aircraft de-icing conditions.
