“Thai King Rama X Surpasses King Charles III in Wealth”

King Charles III’s personal wealth, excluding the £15 billion Crown Estate managed on his behalf, is estimated at around £640 million. Despite this substantial sum, it pales in comparison to Thailand’s King Rama X, who reportedly boasts a wealth of £32 billion. The Thai monarch, officially known as His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, ascended to the throne in 2016 after a period of mourning for his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

As the 10th monarch of the Chakri dynasty, Rama inherited a legacy worth $43 billion, instantly making him the wealthiest monarch globally, estimated to be around 50 times wealthier than King Charles. Known for his astute wealth management, Rama has invested in various sectors, including property and telecommunications, to further grow his fortune.

His extensive property holdings encompass commercial buildings, luxury hotels, and historic palaces. Additionally, he possesses a fleet of around 300 luxury vehicles, a personal “air force” comprising 38 helicopters and aircraft, and a ceremonial fleet of 52 golden barges, reflecting Thailand’s rich cultural heritage.

While similar to Britain’s Crown Estate, Thailand’s Crown Property Bureau oversees the royal family’s commercial interests, with Rama increasingly asserting personal control over the organization. Criticism and calls for democratic reforms have emerged, challenging the monarch’s reign and questioning the stark economic inequality alongside his vast wealth.

In a move seen as consolidating power towards an absolute monarchy, Rama placed two army units under his direct command in 2019. Analysts note his active involvement in politics, contrasting with his father’s more discreet approach, as he navigates to centralize power in Thai politics.
