Deadline Approaching: Claim Up to £300 Winter Fuel Payment

The DWP is currently distributing payments of up to £300, with an approaching deadline. While many individuals received these payments automatically between November and December 2025, some may have been overlooked and will need to make inquiries.

The deadline for Winter Fuel Payment in 2026 is January 28. If you believe you qualify but have not received the payment within ten days, contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre, managed by the UK Government. This deadline specifically applies to those who were anticipating the payment but have not seen it in their accounts. A different deadline exists for individuals making a claim for the Winter Fuel Payment for the first time, which is March 31.

To reach the Winter Fuel Payment Centre, you can use phone or mail services. Typically, you will need your National Insurance number, bank information, and marriage or civil partnership date (if applicable) when contacting them.

For those uncertain about eligibility, the Mirror has outlined the Winter Fuel Payment criteria and potential payment amounts. Generally, individuals born before September 22, 1959, residing in England or Wales qualify for this payment, with the amount depending on their circumstances during the qualifying week in September 2025.

Eligibility for the Winter Fuel Payment is usually automatic, but exceptions exist. People who have not received this payment before or have delayed their State Pension since the last payment may need to make a claim. If you did not receive specific benefits during the qualifying week, you may be eligible to claim the Winter Fuel Payment.

To make a claim, complete a form and send it to the Winter Fuel Payment Centre’s address or contact the center by phone. Deaf or hard of hearing individuals can use Relay UK for assistance. More details can be found on the GOV.UK website.
