Canadian curling star, Marc Kennedy, has raised concerns about being targeted by what he believes were strategically placed cameras with the intent to catch his team cheating at the Winter Olympics. Kennedy faced accusations of a double touch by the Swedish team during a recent match, leading to a verbal warning from World Curling for his use of inappropriate language.
The incident unfolded when Kennedy was accused by Swedish player Oskar Eriksson of touching a stone beyond the hog line. In response, Kennedy vehemently denied the accusation, leading to a heated exchange of words between the two players. Despite the controversy, Canada emerged victorious with an 8-6 win in the match.
Reflecting on the altercation, Kennedy acknowledged that he could have handled the situation better but stood by his actions in defense of his team and himself. He emphasized that he has never engaged in cheating during his curling career.
Following the match, Canada’s women’s team also faced similar allegations of rule violations. Despite the accusations, both Kennedy and the Canadian men’s team denied any wrongdoing and criticized what they perceived as a deliberate attempt by Sweden to catch them off guard.
In response to the accusations, Kennedy and coach Paul Webster pointed fingers at Sweden for allegedly installing cameras to monitor their actions on the ice. Kennedy expressed his belief that Sweden had orchestrated a plan to catch teams in compromising situations.
Sweden, on the other hand, defended their actions, stating that they had been raising concerns about Canadian conduct for several years. Niklas Edin of the Swedish team mentioned that the decision to place a camera on the hog line was to monitor the game closely.
During another match against Switzerland, a member of the Swiss team, Pablo Lachat-Couchepin, raised suspicions of a potential rule violation by Canada. Despite the incident, he clarified that his concerns were not personal but stemmed from a desire for fair play and adherence to the rules.
