“Coyote vs. Acme” Film Premieres Amid Anti-Capitalist Movie Trend

In his ongoing pursuit of the elusive Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote has tried various gadgets without success over many years. However, the blame may not lie with him, but rather with the Acme Corporation. Could it be that the products from Acme, known for items like the “Instant Tunnel” and the “Do-It-Yourself Tornado Kit,” are simply subpar?

This forms the basis of the film “Coyote vs. Acme,” where our determined protagonist enlists a lawyer to sue the Acme Corporation for the physical hardships he has endured using their faulty products. The movie is set to premiere in theaters this Friday after facing delays and being shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery before being revived by independent distributor Ketchup Entertainment.

To celebrate the film’s theme, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite anti-capitalist movies from the past four decades.

“RoboCop” (1987) presents a near future where a corporation called Omni Consumer Products controls the police force, showcasing the struggles of the titular man-machine against corporate greed. In “They Live” (1988), a regular worker discovers hidden truths about alien manipulation and consumerism. “Fight Club” (1999) explores anti-capitalist sentiments through underground fighting clubs, while “Michael Clayton” (2007) delves into corporate cover-ups and unethical practices. “WALL-E” (2008) highlights the consequences of consumerism on Earth’s future, and “Sorry to Bother You” (2018) satirizes corporate culture and exploitation. Lastly, “How to Blow Up a Pipeline” (2022) follows a group’s radical environmental activism against the fossil fuel industry.

Each of these films challenges societal norms and critiques the negative impacts of unchecked capitalism.
