Named by the Portuguese Met Service (IPMA), Storm Ingrid is expected to move northward over the Celtic Sea on Saturday, bringing bands of heavy showers and prolonged periods of rain. A Yellow rain warning is in effect for South West England and Wales until 10pm today, forecasting 20-40mm of additional rainfall, with some areas expecting up to 50mm.
Saturated ground conditions increase the likelihood of road flooding and overflowing water from fields even with moderate rainfall, making driving challenging and roads potentially impassable. Although weaker than previous days, gale-force winds could worsen impacts, especially along the English Channel coast.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to assess their flood risk and prepare emergency kits with essentials like torches, batteries, and a mobile phone charger. Regions at risk include South West England and Wales.
