After a successful 46-year run, a well-known hotel and restaurant abruptly shut down, leaving its loyal patrons in shock. Guys Thatched Hamlet, situated near Bilsborrow in Lancashire off the A6, made the announcement of its closure, resulting in the termination of all staff members.
The closure notice, prominently displayed at the hotel’s entrance, confirmed the end of operations at the expansive 14-acre site, which encompassed various amenities like a tavern, restaurant, sports pavilion, function rooms, cricket ground, bowling green, and three parking areas. The Lancashire Post reported the message on the notice, expressing gratitude to customers, staff, and suppliers for their enduring support over the decades.
In response to the distressing news, customers took to social media to share their heartfelt memories at Guys Thatched Hamlet. Many recalled significant life events, such as proposals and engagements, that took place at the now-defunct establishment, expressing sadness over its closure and hoping for its preservation by a new owner.
Managed by the Wilkinson family since 1980, the business was listed for sale last year without a specified guide price, citing a net turnover of approximately £4.2 million. The hotel’s strategic location near popular tourist destinations like the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland, coupled with its 65 ensuite bedrooms and diverse clientele, made it a sought-after destination for leisure and commercial activities.
Having undergone extensive renovations and expansions under the current ownership, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet had established itself as a distinguished landmark in the North West of England, drawing a consistent flow of customers throughout the year, particularly during peak seasons like summer and holidays.
