A tragic incident occurred at a water park where a lifeguard lost his life while performing his duties, as confirmed by the authorities.
Guilherme da Guerra Domingos, a 24-year-old lifeguard, was involved in an unfortunate event at Wet’n Wild water park in Itupeva, Brazil. Reports indicate that he entered a pool to retrieve a tourist’s ring and got trapped underwater after being pulled into the pool’s drainage system, leading to his drowning.
The incident happened at the Water Bomb attraction, prompting his colleagues to intervene when he did not resurface. They managed to pull him out of the water and administer first aid while emergency medical teams were summoned to the scene.
Despite being rushed to Nossa Senhora Aparecida Municipal Hospital, Guilherme passed away shortly after. The park management revealed that he had been an employee for over two years and was promoted to a leadership role last October.
Wet’n Wild clarified that the Water Bomb attraction does not have a bottom drain and operates with side drains positioned away from the water slide exit and visitor areas.
City officials stated that the park is compliant with all necessary permits and certifications, including occupancy permits for each attraction and a valid Fire Department Inspection Certificate (AVCB).
Following the incident, the park announced its temporary closure on social media and expressed its support for Guilherme’s family, pledging full cooperation with the ongoing investigations.
Guilherme’s body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Institute in Jundiaí before being laid to rest in Bragança Paulista.
