A key member of the al-Qaeda terrorist group was eliminated during US airstrikes in Syria following a deadly ISIS assault that claimed the lives of three American citizens. The Pentagon identified Bilal Hasan al-Jasim as a significant figure behind the heinous attack, labeling him as an experienced leader orchestrating anti-US activities.
Adm. Brad Cooper, the commander of US Central Command, emphasized the relentless pursuit of individuals involved in attacks against American personnel. The operation, carried out on January 16 by US Central Command in the Middle East region, successfully targeted and eliminated Al-Jasim, who had direct ties to the ISIS operative responsible for the tragic incident in Palmyra, Syria, on December 13.
In response to the December attack, US forces, under the operation named Hawkeye Strike, conducted extensive strikes in Syria, hitting over 100 ISIS targets with precision munitions. Additionally, more than 300 ISIS members were captured, and over 20 were neutralized in Syria over the past year to safeguard US and regional security interests.
President Trump’s administration also launched military actions on December 19 in Syria to eradicate Islamic State fighters and weapon depots. Trump issued a stern warning on social media, emphasizing the severe consequences for those who threaten or attack the United States.
The recent military campaign in Syria signifies a strategic shift by the US towards focusing on the Western Hemisphere, particularly in regions like Venezuela and the Caribbean. This shift involves reallocating resources from the Middle East to enhance operations in the Western Hemisphere, as demonstrated by the deployment of an advanced aircraft carrier to South American waters in November.
The US administration, under President Trump’s leadership, remains steadfast in defending its citizens and retaliating against any threats to national security. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth echoed this sentiment on social media, emphasizing the nation’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its people.
