Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband to an all-time low. The company has initiated an unexpected sale, reducing the cost of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.
This service offers lightning-fast speeds of up to 1,130Mbps, typically priced at £29.99 per month. However, it is now available for just £26.99, resulting in a total savings of £72 over the 24-month contract. This translates to around 87p per day.
Virgin claims that this is the most competitive rate ever offered for its Gig1 plan. With these speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.
While households with 70Mbps speeds may need more than 90 minutes to download the same game, Virgin’s Gig1 plan ensures seamless streaming and online gaming experiences. It is important to note that the discounted rate of £26.99 will increase twice during the minimum term, reaching £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028.
Additionally, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available in all UK locations, so it is advisable to check for service availability using Virgin’s postcode checker. Compared to competitors like Sky, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 deal stands out as a cost-effective option. While Sky has reduced its 900Mbps plan to £28, it remains pricier than Virgin and offers slower speeds.
On the other hand, BT’s 900Mbps connection is even more expensive at £37.99. Customers should also explore alternative network providers, as many emerging alt-nets offer competitive pricing compared to major brands.
For instance, Community Fibre currently provides 1Gbps speeds at £25 per month, with the first three months free and fixed prices throughout the contract. However, this service is limited to London and selected south-east regions.
It is essential to consider individual needs before committing to a broadband plan. For light internet users, speeds around 100Mbps may suffice, while larger households with multiple users engaging in activities like remote work, streaming, and gaming may require at least 300Mbps for optimal performance.
Opting for Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre connection is akin to having a high-speed motorway directly into your home, ensuring a smooth online experience.
