Teen’s Ecstasy Death Leads to Boyfriend’s Jail Sentence

A young man has been sentenced to jail for providing ecstasy pills that led to the tragic death of his teenage girlfriend. Lennix Hughes, aged 16, passed away after consuming the Class A drug at a gathering. The pills were given to her by her 18-year-old boyfriend, Jay Conway. Despite efforts by paramedics at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, Scotland, she succumbed to the drug’s effects.

Now 21, Conway tearfully received a 15-month jail term for supplying the fatal drug to Hughes on the night she fell seriously ill. Additionally, he confessed to selling Class B cannabis in a sophisticated operation that lasted over two months. During the trial, it was revealed that Hughes ingested MDMA wraps provided by Conway at his residence in March 2023, leading to her untimely death.

The court learned that Conway, residing in Dundee, was engaged in a drug trade involving encrypted communication devices and negotiating discounted rates for bulk cannabis purchases. He pleaded guilty to distributing ecstasy between March 3 and 4, 2023. A police raid at Conway’s Dudhope Gardens residence uncovered his active involvement in cannabis distribution, with authorities seizing £200 in cash, scales, and grinders from his living quarters.

Moreover, Conway purchased 3.5g of powdered MDMA and hosted a gathering with friends, referring to it as a “Mandy session.” On the fateful night, Conway and a companion were ingesting MDMA wrapped in cigarette paper, a practice known as “bombing,” before inviting Hughes to join them. An autopsy revealed a significant quantity of MDMA and other substances in Hughes’ system at the time of her demise, with four wraps discovered in her stomach.
