A court trial in Birmingham has revealed that a teenage girl was thrown out of a fourth-floor window by her abusive boyfriend, Jordan Herring. The incident occurred at Merton House in Solihull, with graphic CCTV footage showing the girl falling over 37 feet to the ground in November 2022. Emergency services were not contacted for over an hour after the fall.
Herring, now 22 years old, is currently facing trial at Birmingham Crown Court and has denied the charge of attempted murder. Prosecutors stated that the girl, aged 18, had been in an abusive relationship with Herring throughout 2022, enduring incidents of confinement, phone inspection, and physical assault.
The court heard that Herring had violently beaten the girl before the fall, resulting in severe injuries including black eyes, bruises, and throat injuries. Following the assault, Herring and his mother took the injured girl to their residence while attempting to conceal her injuries.
Prosecutors alleged that Herring deliberately threw the girl out of the window by removing safety measures and opening the window fully. Despite surviving the fall with serious injuries, the girl had no recollection of the incident but remembered Herring threatening to kill her before pushing her.
Herring failed to call emergency services after the incident and was seen casually walking down the stairs in CCTV footage. He and his mother then covered the girl’s unclothed body in a blanket and carried her back upstairs before eventually calling for help.
The girl suffered significant injuries, including collapsed lungs, a ruptured spleen, liver laceration, and multiple fractures. Herring was uncooperative with the police at the scene, claiming the girl had jumped voluntarily during an argument. Earlier, he had been convicted of coercive and controlling behavior towards the girl.
The teenager was airlifted to the hospital for emergency treatment, including a blood transfusion and respiratory support. Herring’s hostile behavior towards the authorities and his previous conviction for abusive conduct were highlighted during the trial.
