Surrey County Council is offering assistance to households in need by providing free supermarket vouchers valued at £300 through the Household Support Fund. This initiative aims to aid vulnerable families struggling to afford food and essentials. Residents of Surrey can apply for the vouchers via the Everyday Essentials E-Voucher scheme.
The vouchers can be used at various supermarkets such as Aldi, Asda, Farmfoods, Iceland, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Waitrose. To qualify for the scheme, residents must be over 18 years old, have household savings under £2,000 on average over a 90-day period, and possess an annual household income below £27,007.50 before taxes and deductions.
Applicants need to provide details of their income and household benefits. Applications for the vouchers open monthly, with the next round available from February 3. If the application window is missed for the current month, residents can reapply starting from March 2. Those outside Surrey should contact their local council for available support options.
Nottingham City Council is also providing £100 vouchers to individuals with low incomes or receiving benefits. The council is distributing 10,000 vouchers randomly, and recipients can apply regardless of having received a previous voucher from the council after April 2025. Wakefield Council is issuing food vouchers to low-income households receiving council tax assistance.
Pensioners receiving Council Tax Support have already received £70 vouchers in November, with additional vouchers planned for other households. Families on Council Tax Support will receive £50 vouchers from December 15, while other households under the same support will receive £70 vouchers between December 3 and December 12.
Furthermore, Blackpool Council is distributing energy assistance of £200 to eligible households with one or two individuals, and £300 for households with three or more individuals. To qualify for support, individuals must be facing financial difficulties and struggling to pay bills, requiring recent bank statements for all household members as evidence.
