The individual, aged 44 and unnamed, was intercepted by the police before reaching the arena. A warrant for his arrest had been issued in 2010 for a string of alleged shop thefts, with 11 months and seven days of jail time awaiting him.
Authorities located the fugitive after he checked into a guesthouse on the outskirts of Milan, despite being on the wanted list. He was aiming to attend an ice hockey event at the Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena, but was instead taken into custody and transferred to San Vittore Prison. Meanwhile, Slovakia’s men’s ice hockey team achieved a surprising victory against Finland with a 4-1 score.
