“Protesters Push for Change: Iranian Flag Symbols Swapped”

A protester in London scaled the Iranian embassy balcony and removed the flag, which is associated with the oppressive regime. Meanwhile, on the social media platform X, the official flag of the Islamic Republic was replaced with the pre-revolutionary “Lion-and-Sun” symbol, reflecting a resurgence of this historical emblem as a form of protest in Iran.

The change on X was initiated after a user contacted the company’s head of product and Elon Musk, requesting the alteration of the Iranian flag emoji. Following a swift response, the platform updated all accounts, including those linked to the Iranian government, to display the traditional symbol instead of the post-revolution emblem.

In a separate incident in London, hundreds of people gathered for an anti-regime demonstration near the Iranian embassy. The Metropolitan Police estimated that between 500 to 1,000 individuals participated in the event at its peak.

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper emphasized the importance of protecting individuals who speak out against the Iranian government, particularly emphasizing the rights of free speech and peaceful assembly. Cooper, along with representatives from the UK, France, and Germany, urged Iranian authorities to respect these fundamental rights and listen to the voices of dissent within the country.
