A new way to access television content without monthly fees has emerged for households seeking alternatives. Initially introduced in 2024, Freely offered live channel access through a broadband connection, primarily on select new TVs. However, in the past 18 months, more TV brands like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp have integrated Freely into their screens. Until recently, individuals interested in using the platform had to purchase a new television from a tech retailer.
A breakthrough has arrived as Manhattan’s technology team unveiled a new set-top box, Aero 4K, powered by Freely, enabling any existing TV in a household to access over 60 live channels and on-demand content for free, eliminating the need for costly subscriptions.
The Aero 4K device comes with additional features such as voice search, viewing recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live shows. Subscribers to streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix can also utilize these apps. Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K has gained popularity among consumers.
Currys is the first UK store to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, which quickly sold out upon its release. The retailer confirmed that the device will be restocked soon.
Interested buyers can register their email on the Currys website to receive alerts when the Aero 4K is back in stock. Other retailers, including Amazon and John Lewis, are expected to offer the device shortly.
Upon restocking, the Aero 4K will compete with devices like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, all of which deliver shows, sports, and movies over the internet without the need for traditional aerials or dishes.
The shift to streaming offers advantages such as easier installation without requiring professional assistance, along with regular updates over the air.
The television landscape is evolving rapidly, with Freely announcing a user base exceeding one million. This trend is likely to continue as more viewers transition from conventional viewing methods to streaming services.
