A judge labeled a drug kingpin as a “harsh oppressor” who sacrificed his family for his criminal activities while sentencing his gang to nearly 50 years behind bars. Lee Rigby, who disguised himself as a legitimate businessman, conspired to distribute 9kgs of cocaine, ketamine, and cannabis in North Wales, involving his son and other relatives in the illegal operation.
Police utilized surveillance techniques and listening devices to dismantle the drug ring, described by the judge as disorganized. Rigby, the ringleader, funneled proceeds from drug sales into various assets like properties, boats, and vehicles, frequently traveling to Thailand for money deposits.
Judge Jones criticized Rigby for leading a chaotic gang and mistreating his son, Wesley, who strived to please his father by excelling as a drug dealer, following Rigby’s teachings. Rigby, with a history of convictions for offenses like violence and cockle poaching, was accused of betraying his own family.
The investigation, spearheaded by North Wales Police, exposed the criminal activities of the gang from December 2022 to November 2023, focusing on the daily operations and lifestyles of the suspects within the network. Rigby, the mastermind, orchestrated the procurement and distribution of illicit substances, aided by his accomplice Mark Poh.
Other members, including Rigby’s half-brother Daniel Carroll and his son Wesley, played crucial roles in financing and distributing the drugs. The criminal network also involved individuals like Frank Jones and Jack Harpur in various capacities.
Several accomplices, such as Katie Williams, Claire Clegg, and Jessica Lett, were sentenced for their involvement in aiding the gang by storing money and supplying drugs. The combined prison terms for all defendants totaled 47 years and five months.
Detective Chief Inspector Richard Sidney emphasized the detrimental effects of drugs on society and commended the investigative efforts that dismantled the drug network. He urged communities to report any drug-related activities to help combat organized crime and ensure a safer environment for all.
