Military fighter jets were deployed to accompany a Turkish Airlines aircraft following concerns raised by the pilot about a potential onboard threat. Reports indicated a possible device onboard the Turkish Airlines flight TK1853 that departed from Istanbul early in the morning and landed at Barcelona-El Prat Airport with seven crew members and 148 passengers.
The Airbus A321 plane was escorted by military aircraft after a threat was identified over the Mediterranean Sea in Italian airspace. Spanish and French armed forces participated in the operation, guiding the aircraft to land in Barcelona. The plane safely landed at 11am and was directed to a secure area on runway two.
Law enforcement officials from the Civil Guard boarded the plane while emergency services responded to the scene. Luggage underwent thorough inspection, but no explosives have been found yet. Normal airport operations continue at El Prat Airport, although a general alert has been issued, and the crisis committee has been activated.
According to airport security experts, the response followed standard procedures, and the situation is currently believed to be a false alarm. Passengers have been relocated to the contingency room within the airport, and efforts are underway to inform their families.
