Conor Benn Slams Chris Eubank Jr’s ‘Victim Mentality’

Conor Benn has criticized his rival Chris Eubank Jr for displaying what he calls a ‘victim mentality’ following the release of a troubling video showing Eubank Jr being attended to in a hospital. The footage depicted Eubank Jr, 36, lying still on a hospital bed connected to medical equipment and surrounded by healthcare personnel.

The video elicited a wave of sympathy from fans, with some suggesting that Eubank Jr should consider retiring after his defeat to Benn in a unanimous decision during their rematch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November. Benn, however, urged fans to question Eubank Jr’s motives for sharing the video, insinuating that it may be a ploy to garner sympathy.

Speaking to the Mail, Benn disclosed that he had heard about Eubank Jr’s health issues, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) during training camp and a potential stomach cyst post-fight. Despite this, Benn remained unconcerned, stating that he believes the public should delve deeper into the reasons behind the video’s release, suggesting a recurring theme of seeking sympathy and victimhood.

Benn emphasized his own private struggles, citing instances like making weight for a fight in Vegas and tearing a tendon during training camp without seeking public sympathy. Referring to the challenges fighters face as modern-day gladiators, Benn highlighted his resilience in dealing with various adversities without complaint.

Although Eubank Jr confirmed his intention not to retire in the video, acknowledging his health issues over the past year, he expressed determination to return to boxing at full strength for his loyal fans. The article also mentioned a promotional offer by Sky, reducing the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming season, providing access to over 1,400 live matches across various leagues, including a significant increase in live Premier League games.
