A 63-year-old British tourist named Gordon Dewar was rescued after a harrowing night in a jungle infested with snakes. Dewar, who had been on a cycling excursion in Chiang Mai province, Thailand, strayed from the main road to immerse himself in nature. Despite his efforts, he got lost in the challenging terrain of the Phrao district on January 10.
With his food and water supply dwindling rapidly, Dewar found himself stranded in the forest as night fell. He opted to spend the night amidst cobras, pit vipers, bears, elephants, and leopards before seeking help from the authorities the next morning. Expressing his gratitude for his rescue, Dewar mentioned that he doubted his survival without sustenance and hydration.
The Chiang Mai Tourist Police received his distress call around 10:30 am local time and promptly mobilized a search team comprising local rescuers, motocross riders, volunteers, and drone operators. After a thorough search along the nature trail, they located Dewar, who was fatigued and dehydrated after enduring approximately 15 hours without food or water.
Upon receiving medical attention, Dewar was provided with water, mineral supplements, and treatment for his minor injuries. Rescuers had to navigate the challenging mountainous terrain to reach Dewar, who had also developed muscle strain from days of continuous cycling. Safely extracted from the forest with his bicycle intact, Dewar expressed his gratitude to the rescue team before continuing his cycling journey back to the city center.
Dewar had been exploring cycling routes in Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son provinces before opting for an alternate path on his return trip. After a well-deserved meal, he bid farewell to his rescuers and pedaled away on his bike, thankful for the assistance that brought him to safety.
