British Tourist, 75, Dies After Ocean Swim in Tenerife

A 75-year-old British holidaymaker tragically passed away following a swim in the ocean at El Duque beach in Costa Adeje, Tenerife. Lifeguards aided the individual after he was rescued from the water. Despite efforts by medical professionals to revive him, including a doctor, nurse, and paramedics, the man went into cardiac arrest and could not be revived, leading to his death at the scene.

Initially reported as a 70-year-old foreign visitor, it was later revealed that the deceased was a British national who had recently turned 75. El Duque beach, which boasts a Blue Flag but is known for its strong currents, was the location of the incident. It remains unclear whether the man was alone or accompanied by others at the time.

An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted in the island’s capital, Santa Cruz, to determine the cause of death, whether drowning or related to a preexisting health issue. Authorities from a regional government emergency response coordination center confirmed the sequence of events leading to the tragic outcome, mentioning the involvement of lifeguards, medical personnel, and the subsequent police response.

Tenerife had experienced previous sea-related tragedies, including incidents late last year due to severe storms. Notably, multiple fatalities and injuries occurred on different occasions as individuals were affected by dangerous sea conditions in various parts of the island.
