A man who left the UK for a Spanish region known for its mild winter weather, reaching up to 17°C in January, has described it as a “winter paradise.” The Costa Del Sol is a popular destination for British tourists, attracting an estimated 3.1 million visitors annually.
Around 30% of the region’s visitors are believed to be British, contributing nearly £4 billion to the local economy. While many Brits visit the Costa Del Sol for summer vacations, Mark Danby, also known as Tapas Guy online, was drawn to the area for its pleasant winter climate.
In a video on YouTube, Mark shared that the dreary winters in the UK left him feeling drained and merely getting by. In 2025, he made the decision to move to Spain, where he experienced a different winter lifestyle.
According to Mark, the peaceful beaches and calm evenings in the Costa Del Sol offered a refreshing change from the extreme weather conditions in the UK. He emphasized that the slower pace of life during winter allowed him to truly relax and enjoy the surroundings.
Mark’s daily routine has transformed since relocating, with simple activities like going for a walk or enjoying a coffee feeling more enjoyable. He highlighted the importance of balance and the positive impact of the mild winter climate on his physical and mental well-being.
Regarding expat life in Spain, Mark pointed out that many individuals discover if the lifestyle suits them during the quieter winter months. Despite the reduced hustle and bustle compared to the summer season, he finds solace in the peaceful and cooler atmosphere.
Mark expressed that the mild climate in winter reduces stress and allows for a more harmonious daily routine without the challenges of extreme weather. He emphasized the value of living in harmony with the climate and highlighted the importance of work-life balance.
When asked if the Costa Del Sol is a winter paradise, Mark affirmed that the region offers a perfect blend of tranquility, sunshine, and a supportive lifestyle conducive to work and well-being.
Mark is among many who have chosen to leave the UK for the Costa Del Sol. A 2025 survey revealed that nearly a quarter of Malaga’s population were born outside of Spain, with the percentage increasing in towns like Fuengirola. Expats from various countries, including the UK, Russia, and Finland, are choosing to make the region their new home.
