Brazilian Teen Poisons Meals Over Family Dispute

A 17-year-old girl has been apprehended by authorities for allegedly contaminating meals prepared for her parents and cousin with a toxic substance called chumbinho. The incident took place in Nova Serrana, Minas Gerais, Brazil, on January 7. The girl admitted to mixing the poison into three meals her mother had cooked for her parents and cousin. The poison is typically used to eliminate rodents.

The girl had a disagreement with her parents prior to committing the act. Major Renato Geraldo da Silva, a Military Police spokesperson, mentioned that the family disapproved of her romantic relationship. The girl seized the opportunity to add the toxic substance to the meals her mother had prepared for the family each night.

The cousin discovered an unusual texture in one of the meals and stopped eating it. After alerting his uncle, it was revealed that the meals had been tampered with. The parents refrained from consuming the poisoned food. The cousin sought medical attention, underwent treatment, and is in stable condition.

The teenager confessed that her actions were driven by anger resulting from her parents’ disapproval of her relationship. The poison container was already present in the family’s home before the incident. Samples of the food and poison were collected for further analysis. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Civil Police.

The unnamed girl was taken to the Civil Police station with her legal representative and is cooperating with authorities. In a separate case from Australia, a woman was convicted of triple murder for serving a lethal meal containing death cap mushrooms to her family members. The woman received a severe sentence and will not be eligible for parole until 2056.
