Sir AP McCoy has shared his recommendations for the future of Constitution Hill, a talented jumps horse. Constitution Hill, who triumphed in the 2023 Champion Hurdle, had a promising start to his career with ten consecutive wins. Unfortunately, his luck took a turn at the Cheltenham Festival, where he fell early in the race as the favorite. Subsequently, he faced another setback at the Grand National meeting in Aintree and later finished fifth in the Punchestown Champion Hurdle.
Despite these challenges, trainer Nicky Henderson conducted a thorough assessment of Constitution Hill during the summer and believed the horse was ready to shine in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle. However, history repeated itself as Constitution Hill fell at the second hurdle in the race won by Golden Ace.
Despite the string of mishaps, Henderson has dismissed the idea of retiring Constitution Hill and is contemplating transitioning the horse to Flat racing. In a recent episode of William Hill’s Inside Track, McCoy expressed his thoughts on the situation, highlighting the horse’s potential and resilience.
On the other hand, Barry Geraghty, a William Hill ambassador and the original purchaser of Constitution Hill, suggested exploring alternative options for the horse’s jumping abilities before considering a move to the Flat racing circuit. Geraghty recommended a rehabilitation program for Constitution Hill’s jumping skills, possibly under the guidance of expert Yogi Breisner, known for innovative training methods.
The decision on Constitution Hill’s future path remains uncertain, with differing opinions on whether to persist with hurdles or explore new avenues for the talented horse. The discussion continues among the connections involved in Constitution Hill’s racing career.
